The gameplay is very fun and reminiscent of FFVII Remake in that you have to constantly change between your characters in order to be effective in battle. But considering how good everything else is, it's easy to forgive those flaws. A few story scenes could have also benefitted from a retooling, as the characters make some bone-headed decisions along the way (looking at you, Riesz). The missing multiplayer is unfortunate (though understandable), and the difficulty is fairly low even on hard mode. And of course the soundtrack is amazing as well. The game is a joy to play, and the multiple characters and large amount of character customization makes it highly replayable. By taking the story, characters, and design philosophy of the original and combining it with a modern take on combat and cutscenes, Trials of Mana manages to be very faithful to the original while still feeling fresh.
